IKEVALD is a singer, songwriter and producer from a family where music is the first language. Born in Tallinn in 1987 and raised in Los Angeles, he came back to Estonia with his parents after the Iron Curtain fell. His father is the composer and pianist Rein Rannap, his mother an opera singer, and his grandfather Heino Rannap taught generations of musicians at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre.
He played his first show at five and fronted rock and funk bands from seventeen. He studied songwriting and production at Berklee College of Music, The Songwriting Academy in the UK and the Rhythmic Music Center in Denmark, where he lived for five years.
In 2013 he opened for Rival Sons in Heidelberg. In 2015 he released the EP LiveLoveLaugh, his song “Genius” won a BBC Radio songwriting competition, and he moved to London. Then he gave up his apartment and spent three years on the road with a backpack and a guitar, through 25 countries. The songs from that time became the soul album Synchronize (2019), and later Modern Mythology (2023), where meditation bowls run through distortion pedals and “Possess Me” was named one of the anthems of the year by Rock FM Estonia.
His songs travel further than he does. “Never Surrender” was recorded by the Japanese star Takanori Nishikawa for Epic Records Japan. Since 2024 he has been a songwriter with the UK publisher DWB Music, and in 2026 one of his songs landed a sync deal with Warner Chappell.
Today he lives in Granada. The South taught a Nordic soul to dance, and you can hear it in the singles “Lick the Sun”, “Yo-Yo”, “Keep Loco” and “Children of the Jungle”. They lead to the album From the North to the South, out in spring 2027: a rock and pop record in English, Spanish, Estonian and Danish about time passing, compassion, and a song that feels like home in more than one country.
Alongside his own music, he co-founded Helikuju with the music psychologist Dali Kask: Estonia’s very first sound design agency, shaping how spaces and brands feel, from the foyer of the Tallinn Children’s Hospital, awarded a bronze Kuldmuna for Sound Mastery in 2026, to spas and brands. Through Write Your Fire and its course Zero to Song, he helps people who have always carried songs inside them to finally finish and share one.
